Additional funds for the Geriatrics Center project

Financial support in the amount of almost 9 million PLN was given to the project of the Geriatrics Center in Gdańsk implemented by the Medical University of Gdańsk. The project refers to the fight against the Coronavirus disease. The funds will be intenden for the essential construction, purchase of medical accessories, as well as personal protective equipment. The annex to the agreement was signed on 9th of June by the rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk, prof. Marcin Gruchała and by the voivodship marshals: Mieczysław Struk and Wiesław Byczkowski. Agnieszka Kapała-Sokalska, member of the Board of the Pomeranian Voivodeship was also present during the event.

Due to the project the University Center for Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia (in which the therapy for coronavirus infected patients is provided) will receive funding in the amount of 2 763 660,40 PLN. The funds will allow a construction of an external elewator, for vertical transport of patients and medical materials. As well as the expansion of the current medical waste warehouse. In addition the necessary personal protective equipment will be purchased, including protective masks, aprons and germicidal suits.

Except the UCMMiT, the financial support will be also awarded to: the 7 Navy Hospital in Gdańsk and the Medical Diagnostics Laboratory of the Provincial Sanitary-Epidemiological Station in Gdańsk. Additional funds to fight the pandemic caused by the SARS CoV-2 virus comes from EU funds under the Regional Operational Program of the Pomeranian Voivodeship for 2014-2020.
